Tutorial: How to downgrade Nokia N8 from Symbian Belle to Symbian Anna

But if you see that situation I wrote above in bold, then don’t get upset please and don’t follow as Phoenix tells you to do. Instead just disconnect the phone and power it up yourself. You might need once a forced-power-off with long pressing of power button until it vibrates thrice. Then power it on.

Done!

Your N8 should be now on Pre PR1.0. Just give it 3 finger hard reset to clean it from both the phone memory and mass storage.

Upgrade to Symbian Anna

Now is the time to upgrade it to Symbian Anna. BTW you can now upgrade it to any firmware release later than Pre PR1.0 but as now officially Symbian Anna has been rolled-out and if it’s available for your device you will not get earlier than Symbian Anna via Ovi Suite or Nokia Software Updater.

Just connect your Nokia N8 to computer. Run Ovi Suite or Nokia Software Updater. And update to latest official firmware available for you.

I have mentioned in the post that the video is not ready for the upload. It might take time but I’ll do once it’s ready. BTW the steps in video are just same as you can see in the earlier video I posted for upgrading. The video of downgrading procedure will merely be a proof of downgrading and nothing more.

However the error you mentioned can be caused when the firmware files were not found in any of the product locations configured in Phoenix. for the solution, i put three *.dcp *.vpl *.bin files in the folder that i have put *.fpsx files in.
then phoneix recognized the firmware

Not sure about direct update from Belle [leaked] to Belle [official]. But sure downgrading first and then upgrading to official Belle will work as the downgrading procedure above just gives you the official release of Symbian Anna or any previous version of Symbian^3.

The above procedure is a direct flashing of PR1.0 on Nokia N8. The Scandinavia DG firmware suggested in this tutorial is actually PR1.0. So sure you will get PR1.0 when you will be using this tutorial to downgrade from Symbian Belle.

Be informed that after downgrading to PR1.0, you will have the option to upgrade to any firmware later than PR1.0 e.g. PR1.1, PR1.2 or Anna. Depends on the availability of the latest official firmware for your Nokia N8.

If you strictly want PR1.2 back but Symbian Anna is officially available for your N8, Ovi Suite won’t let you upgrade to PR1.2 because Nokia recommends always a latest firmware. In that case you can use our general tutorial to flash Nokia N8 on the following link.

and you should go to Anna and try the Camera update at the following link. That camera update is more functional and with better features than the one in Belle. as per my experience with that..

You saved my bacon with this :) Been trying for a couple of days to downgrade, and I had been doing basically the same as you described here, but I was using a different firmware and could not get the phone to boot no matter what I tried. But now that I tried with the 11.5 version it worked like a charm! Again, thanks alot! :D

After downgrading, my phone can’t install Ovi Store anymore. I’ve tried reinstalling the qt libs and still it doesn’t work. Any suggestions about that?

u didn’t need to install QT libs.
Just do 3 finger hard reset.
You will get latest Ovi Store via Software Updater in the phone

follow the steps carefully
Extract the archive file that you just have downloaded (RM-596-11.5-scandinavia.rar) in a folder.
rename it “RM-596″
Not “RM 596″

and the follow the steps like pasting this folder in products folder in phoenix folder

I just downgraded my N8 belle to anna today as the update of US variant finaly arrived. This is what I did, and a straight forward one.
1- Downloaded the latest firmware with NavFirm+ 1.5, I used 25.7 Anna (3.7 gb in total)
2- placed all files into Phoenix product folder RM-596 (c :> program file > phoenix > nokia > products). Create that folder if you don’t have one in there.
3- Run Phoenix and select the product (file > open product >select nokia RM-596)
4- from Phoenix menu, firmware update, I selected the product (Flashing > firmware updates > 059C8T6), then OK
5- Opened OPTIONS on firmware updates window, then checked both “Allow SW Downgrade” and “Ignore Invalid SW version”, and then OK.
6- checked dead phone USB flashing and run “Refurbish”, the computer will checked all files
7- Turned the phone off and plugged in the USB wire when a window came up asking to do so.
8- waited 15 min mostly to transfer the almost 4 Gb file to the phone and then firmware update done.

Notes:
a- NO CONNECTION shall be used when running phoenix to flash under “dead phone USB flashing” .
b- I formatted all available disk before the flashing, and then I removed both sd card and sim card.
3- I got a clean install with new songs that I did not have before, and all three games are also back, (galaxy on fire, NFS Shift, Real Golf)

I have Anna 25.7 running on my N8. I had installed Belle leaked (earlier version) using your tutorial, which I can’t stop appreciating, by the way. But I downgraded to the Scandanavian version after a “System Error” kept popping up every time I switched on. But now after updating with NSU, its become version 25.7 :-(

I love Belle and wanna go back to this version. What do I have to do? Pls tell asap…

I’m using an 059D2N8 N8-00 variant in Malaysia. I tried downgrading to PR1.0 but with not much success. This is a carrier variant (Maxis). I would like to downgrade back to the original Anna and wait for the official upgrade. Phoenix had some problem finalizing the downgrade to the PR1.0. The phone already showing PR.1.0 but the latest Nokia Suite still detect it as Belle Release 111. ++

This process will work fine either of the product codes devices. and will not change the original product code of your device so later updates to your device will be according to your original product code.

i don’t know how to thank you enough, i was running belle RM-596_111.020.0203 then tried to upgrade to RM-596_111.030.0607. when i upgraded i look at the mem and saw 50 mb remainding on my C: drive. when i check the person had all there games and other install on that drive. i tried to delete them but no luck, you cant see any option for delete or any installed apps. and downgrading back to my previous was a total disaster. when i tried your method i was able to downgrade but i still had all the apps from the RM-596_111.030.0607. after being annoy i upgrade it back to 111.020.0203 and my problem was fix, everything got erase. if it wasnt for your method i might of lose my mine lol.

BTW next time to deal with such issues you may try “Delete data and restore” in Settings > Phone > Phone Management > Factory Settings.
It should delete any bundled or pre-installed apps and help freeing up the phone memory..

Your guide sucks anus, I followed it to the letter and bricked my phone. I managed to fix it by reflashing Belle. Now I will just do what Tendro did (which is exactly the same thing as I would’ve guessed to do had I never made the mistake of finding this web page in the first place.)

Any how .. i tried the downgrade on my E6 using the latest 25.7 firmware but it gave me a dead usb phone , tried many time but no use phone never boot up to Anna , so i revert back to Belle again and it work but still facing the same damn Sms issue , so i want to ask what is the pre PR1.0 firmware for Nokia E6 will be good for my phone ???

I already have a CFW 30.607 belle on my n8 but when tried to change the CFW to a different mod pack. After flashing the files using “No connection & dead USB flash” , my phone goes in a loop. Somebody help ! my phone boots with a nokia logo and continues in the same loop!..

You vae saved my bacon! This was a wild learning experience, but, ultimately, doing exactly as you said got me back to PR1.0 just fine. I cannot thank you enough!

Only problem I had was after the downgrade, when the stupid Nokia S/W Updater did something to completely freeze my n8 on reboot. I will now go through the whole thing again, and then just flash in my Anna software.

Hello folks great job Managed to downgrade from Belle to Anna 25.7 for 20min the beetle was over.
Everything worked perfectly until I turned off the phone deliberately.

the next 6 hours phone was completely dead I tried everything – usb – power – refurbish – sw reset – update sw – JAF – but nothing could be done – no boot or telephone communications with usb in any way…….

a friend said let’s try the battery – but why would you do that before 7-8h worked excellent.

and i do not believe what happened;

The BATTERY went DEAD……….. 0.000v :-)

insert a second battery from another phone to try and phone switches on without problems.

maybe this will help someone else If you find yourself in a similar problem.

The process worked fine for me too, it downgraded and turned. But then I upgraded to Anna, my phone downloaded the updates, installed them and told me the phone will restart. Once it restarted all I see is the white NOKIA screen and the phone does not turn on at all. (No greeting sound or NOKIA’s hand in hand thing)….Can anyone please help???

hello!!! i have a nokia n8, and i have a big issue, i used to surf the internet, and i used to be able to open any webpage, but now webpages i used to visit get stuck while the phone is loading the page so i can’t visit those pages anymore, the phone get stuck if i try, and it give like an error message that said “memory full close applications and try again” this happen to me while i was using anna, and them i change to belle to see if that can be fix, still i have the same issue, then i try by holding the power off bottom and the menu bottom until it vibrate 2 or 3 times i think, to reset it, and is still not woking, so if anyone know about this issue, please help me!!!!

I have upgraded my n8 with belle six months back. It works fine. But few days back when i opend camera app, a msg displayed “unknown error occured, plz switch off and on the phone”. I did it. then started my phone booting still it didnt turn up.
